Teamwork Coaching, not "Team Building": The SuddenTeams Program

Raleigh/Durham BBB Accredited Business ReportThe SuddenTeamsTM Program from TeamTrainers is a unique teamwork training and coaching method based on scientific sources and tested with real-world experience. The program works in any group of four or more, because small-group dynamics are the same regardless of the team's function or industry. Of course, we customize the content for your team's level in the company, tasks, and real-life problems.

If you need help with a specific problem and know what you want from us, see our team problem-solving page. But if you want the high performance of true teamwork as soon as possible, keep reading.

The Assessment

Because most of the program is ready to go for your team, we don't have to spend a lot of your time and money on detailed assessments. Basically, we:

  • Look over all documents you have on the team and its challenges.
  • Interview you, the team leader if different, and any other stakeholders you wish.
  • Briefly talk with any team member you think will resist the program to get his/her take and build buy-in.

We then use a 10-minute survey form to establish a baseline for proving ROI, and we're ready to roll. No in-depth surveys, personality tests, or talk-a-thons required.

The Gap Analysis

Although there's always more to learn, teamwork researchers know a lot about the structures and processes a high-performance team uses that other teams do not. But most teams don't do those things. We compare what you're doing to what science says you should be doing, and produce a menu of recommended changes for you to choose from.

The 5 W's

  1. Who—The team members, team leader (unless the team is self-directed), and when appropriate, other affected stakeholders.
  2. What—Changes in how the team is structured or operates, to fill in the gaps you want filled.
  3. When—A half-day retreat to start if you wish, and/or the rest using a fraction of each regular team meeting until done.
  4. Where—In your conference room, or by Web or video-conference if the team is virtual.
  5. Why—To give your team the highest possible output at the lowest possible costs and stress.

Follow-Up Coaching

Research into adult learning shows you have to follow up on training through regular contact with each learner to make the learning "stick." Otherwise, within three weeks to two months, most behavior changes disappear. A key difference between TeamTrainers and standard team builders is our commitment to lasting change. We provide a year of unlimited phone and e-mail contact for every team leader and member at no additional cost.
